LIBRARIES
- American
Kennel Club Library
- Though hounds and beagles are among the dog breeds represented in our collection, if you're looking for a library that has really gone to the dogs, try the AKC collection, which is located in New York.
- Thomas Balch Library
- Owned and operated by the City of Leesburg, Virginia, this history and genealogy library is rich in resources in the history of Loudoun County and of the Middleburg area.
British Library
Many of the horse and field sports represented
in the National Sporting Library collection trace back to

Carleton F. Burke Memorial Library
- The library, located in Arcadia, Calif., includes
books on Thoroughbred racing, including books on racing, breeding,
history, handicapping and more.

Folger Shakespeare Library
- The Folger Shakespeare Library, located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, is home to the world’s largest and finest collection of Shakespeare materials and to major collections of other rare Renaissance books, manuscripts, and works of art.
Mary Jane Gallaher Memorial Library, International Museum of the Horse, Lexington, Kentucky
The Mary Jane Gallaher Memorial Library is an equine-focused research center available as a resource to the public. Nearly 3,500 volumes make up the library with a strong archival collection heavily focused on archaeology. - The Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History has initiated a project to record the firsthand experiences and stories of people who work with horses in Kentucky. The purpose is to build a collection that represents the diversity of the equine community and fosters a better appreciation for the historical, cultural, and economic significance of the horse to Kentucky. With start-up funds provided by KEEP (the Kentucky Equine Education Project) and the University of Kentucky, project staff are conducting interviews preserving the history of racing and non-racing breeds in the commonwealth, as well as many occupations that support the equine industry.

- The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library. In collaboration with the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, and other research libraries across the country, it has worked to digitize and put online important collections from libraries around the world. Many of the books from the Fairman Rogers Collections, from the University of Pennsylvania - including rare equestrian, hunting, coaching and sporting books - are available online in digital format (including downloadable PDF documents), as well as rare titles from other research libraries that are identical or slightly-different editions of titles that are held in the NSL's collections (including works by Federico Grisone, Peter Beckford, Nimrod, Theodore Roosevelt, etc.).

ever printed in America, as it is mythically believed, LC's
huge collection is an important resource.
- Library of the National School of Veterinary Medicine in Lyons, France
- This library maintains a page of selected images from early veterinary and equestrian texts, including works by many of the authors represented in the NSL's rare book collections.

The library system of Loudoun County,Va.,
includes the Middleburg
Library, located just a short walk from the NSL.
- Douglas M. and Helena McElwain Milne Angling Collection, University of New Hampshire
- One of the largest collection of angling books in the United States (at 3,500 volumes). The collection, which now numbers over 3,500 volumes, is particularly rich in
materials relating to fly fishing for trout and Atlantic salmon with special
emphasis on fishing in New England and eastern Canada. Beyond containing the
classics of angling literature – such as numerous editions of Izaak Walton’s The Compleat Angler – the collection boasts a vast array of books on fly tying, rod making, and stream tactics.
National
Agricultural Library
- Don't let the word "agriculture"
steer you wrong; this national library includes extensive
holding on horses, veterinary care and much more. This site
includes the AGRICOLA
database of agricultural literature.

- The University of Virginia's Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library contains the Marion duPont Scott Collection, an extensive collection on equestrian sports. It also offers research fellowships through the Harrison Institute for Ameican History, Literature, and Culture.

Fairman Rogers Rare Book & Manuscript Collection, Rare Book & Manuscript Library, University of Pennsylvania
- The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia owns the Fairman Rogers Collection, a rich collection of rare equestrian books onced owned by Fairman Rogers (1833-1900). Rogers was a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He was equally well known, however, for his skill as a horseman, in both riding
and driving; he was the founder of the Philadelphia Coaching Club and the first
person in Philadelphia to drive a four-in-hand. The U Penn. Library also owns the Fairman Rogers Papers in its manuscript collections. Some of the items have been digitized and are available online on the Internet Archive website (searching for "Fairman Rogers" as the search term). The holdings of both the book and manuscript collections can be searched by doing a keyword search for "Fairman Rogers" in the U. Penn. Library's card catalogue, or by ordering the collection guide (The Fairman Rogers Collection on the horse and equitation : a history and guide by Claire Gilbride Fox), a copy of which is in the NSL's collections.
Virginia Historical Society
Founded in 1831, the VHS is the repository for archival materials related to the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VHS also offers a number of research fellowships.

Sidesaddle Federation Library

- American Society for Environmental History
- The American Society for Environmental History (ASEH), founded in 1977, seeks to promote scholarship and teaching in environmental history, to support the professional needs of its members, and to connect its undertakings with larger communities. Hunt Country Stable Tour
Held annually on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend in May, the Hunt Country Stable Tour raises money for Trinity Episcopal Church (in Upperville, Virginia) and regional and national charities. Upperville Colt and Horse Show

Founded in 1853, the Upperville Colt and Horse Show is the oldest continuous horse show in the United States, and is held annually in early June at the Upperville Show Grounds in Upperville, Virginia, not far from Middleburg. The National Sporting Library has a manuscript collection on the Upperville show as well as a complete run of past show programs.
Virginia Falconers Association
The Virginia Falconers Association promotes falconry as a legitimate field sport, conserves the wild raptor resource, disseminates information to falconers throughout the state and educates the public.
