Under no circumstances are researchers allowed to remove items in the Library’s collection from the Library premises. The Library sells and rents photographic reproductions of items in its collections. Photocopies, black-and-white photographs, and 35mm color slides are available for research and projection. Digital images (on a CD) and large format color transparencies are available for a three-month rental for reproduction and/or publication purposes.

In consideration of our supplying a photographic reproduction, the user agrees:

1. to use the image only for the purpose stated on this form;
2. not to use or authorize others to use the image for any purpose differing from the specific use stated on this form without written permission of The National Sporting Library;
3. to promptly return to the Library any large format transparencies and CDs at the termination of the three-month rental period;
4. to credit each individual reproduction to: The National Sporting Library, Middleburg, Virginia;
5. to make advance payment to the Library of any fees in excess of $20.00;
6. to provide the Library a complimentary copy of any publication or production using an image from the Library’s collection.

The Library reserves the right to restrict the use or reproduction of rare, valuable, or fragile items; to ensure that the use of the reproductions is in good taste; and to make special quotations on items involving unusual difficulty in copying.

Special Consideration – The National Sporting Library reserves the right to waive fees or other requirements on an individual basis. Such a waiver can be made only upon written application.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that that photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.

In compliance with copyright law, The National Sporting Library limits the number of "fair use" photographic reproductions (copies) of each item to one. Furthermore, we cannot copy all or substantially all of a work for you unless an unused copy of the work cannot be found at a fair price.
